An intimate and sweet in home newborn session

Sweet baby girl Charlotte! This session was amazing. Charlotte is the second daughter born to this gorgeous family and I had the honor of capturing this sweet and transitional season of life for them! Going from one to two kids is always such an adjustment but I can honestly say that this family is nailing life with two kids!

Charlotte's nursery is impeccably designed! The greenery in the room added some nice texture to the photos done in the nursery. I'm now convinced that every nursery should have greenery! I love doing in-home sessions, especially if there are older siblings involved! Sometimes a familiar space is best for toddlers/preschoolers. When deciding between a studio session or a in home session, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  1. Natural light- does your home get ample natural light? Are there windows that I can work with? While I always bring lighting with me if necessary, windows and light streaming in from the outdoors always makes a huge difference!
  2. Decluttering the space- Is there a space in your home that has natural light and clear of clutter? Clutter can be an eye sore in pictures and I am known to rearrange furniture and spaces in homes to be free of clutter. My studio is completely clear of any clutter, so if you would rather not spend your post partum period getting a space in your home ready for pictures, then I would strongly recommend a studio session!
  3. Colors- this may sound crazy, but the colors of your walls and furniture will heavily influence your photos! Yellow nursey walls or dark colored furniture can't be edited out. When you look at my newborn portfolio, you will see a lot of white, bright, airy and neutral colors. Neutral walls and light colored textiles and furniture will help streamline your photos to look like what I normally produce! This is why my studio space is white, bright and airy!

While I have never met a home I couldn't photograph in, it certainly can be a lot more challenging for me to produce high end, natural, light and airy newborn photos if these three points are not considered when deciding on the location for your newborn shoot! We will decide together what the best location will be for your newborn shoot. I always want to produce beautiful, consistent work for my clients and the location of your newborn shoot will influence how your photos turn out!
